New Directions

The New Directions Program started in January 2010 with a grant allocation from the Moody's foundation. The Program is a free academic skill building and recreational program offered by Charles A. Melton Arts and Education Center. The Mission of the New Directions program is the following:

- To help children in elementary and middle schools practice academic skills through tutoring and homework assistance.
- To assist students in developing socialization and coping skills and in developing a positive self-image.
- To build relationships between students, counselors, and parents to insure the attainment of each student’s goals.
- To provide trips for incentives and the reinforce classroom learning.

The Program runs through the school year on Mondays-Thursdays, from 4PM - 6PM.

Growing Examples

The Charles A. Melton Arts and Education Center, with aid from the Willistown Conservation Trust, is now operating the "Growing Examples" program.

The Trust provides potting soil, containers, and technical assistance to participants in an effort to foster education about gardening, the environment, and nutrition. This community container garden is open to all.

Jazzercise

Zumba Fitness

Zumba is a Colombian dance fitness program created by dancer and choreographer Alberto "Beto" Perez during the 1990s.

Zumba involves dance and aerobic elements. Zumba's choreography incorporates hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue, mambo, martial arts, and some Bollywood and belly dance moves. Squats and lunges are also included.

Zumba class is cancelled until further notice.

Vinyasa Flow/Power Yoga

Yoga is a form of exericise that uses slow movements and stretching. It is good for increasing flexibility and balance. It is also good for relieving stress and relaxing. Yoga has been used as a meditation technique for thousands of years. As you exercise, you meditate on what your body is feeling and try to be "one with the universe."

Yoga class is cancelled until further notice.
